The short answer
What is a medical director for estheticians?
A medical director is the licensed physician who oversees the medical side of an esthetics practice or med spa. When you offer injectables, medical-grade peels, microneedling, laser, IV therapy, or weight-loss medications, Florida requires a physician behind those services: someone who writes the protocols, delegates the work to properly licensed staff, reviews records and consents, and is reachable if something goes wrong. Your own team keeps seeing and treating your clients.
MeliOra gives estheticians, med spa owners, and RN injectors in Tampa, Lutz, and Land O’ Lakes exactly that, from a physician who does aesthetic treatments herself every week.
What’s included
Everything your practice needs from a physician

Practice-level oversight
Dr. Espinet oversees your practice and its medical services. She does not see or treat your clients; your licensed team does, under her protocols.

Complication protocols
A written escalation plan for adverse reactions, so your team knows exactly what to do, plus a physician you can reach by call or text.

What does a medical director do for an esthetician or med spa?
A medical director is the licensed physician who takes responsibility for the medical services a practice offers. That means writing and signing protocols, delegating procedures to qualified staff, reviewing records and consents, and having an escalation plan for complications. The medical director oversees the practice; the practice’s own licensed team sees and treats the clients.
Do estheticians in Florida need a medical director?
It depends on the service. Facials and treatments within the scope of an esthetics license do not. Services that are the practice of medicine, such as injectables, deeper chemical peels, medical microneedling, IV therapy, and prescription products, require a physician’s order and oversight, and Florida limits which of those an esthetician may perform at all. On the intro call, Dr. Espinet walks through your menu and tells you which services need a physician.
Can an esthetician do Botox in Florida with a medical director?
No. In Florida, injecting neurotoxins or fillers is outside an esthetician’s license, even with a medical director. Injectables must be performed by a physician or by a licensed provider, such as a registered nurse, working under a physician’s delegation and supervision.
How much does a medical director cost in Tampa?
MeliOra charges a flat monthly fee. It depends on your service menu and volume, so call, text, or send your practice details and Dr. Espinet will share pricing.
Is Dr. Espinet board certified?
Yes. Dr. Melanie Espinet, MD, is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and leads MeliOra Elite Wellness, a physician-led aesthetics and wellness practice in Lutz, FL.
Can you supervise a nurse practitioner or physician assistant?
Florida sets additional requirements for physicians who supervise nurse practitioners and physician assistants at offices focused on skin care, including specialty board certification. Tell us about your team on the form or the intro call, and we will tell you honestly whether MeliOra is the right fit.
Which areas do you serve?
Practices in Tampa, Lutz, Land O' Lakes, and nearby Wesley Chapel, New Tampa, Odessa, Carrollwood, Citrus Park, Westchase, Trinity. If your practice is elsewhere in the Tampa Bay area, reach out and we will let you know.
Does Dr. Espinet see or treat my clients?
No. As medical director, Dr. Espinet oversees your practice, not your clients. She provides the protocols, delegation, and physician oversight your business needs; your licensed team continues to see and treat your clients.
How quickly can we get started?
It starts with a short intro call. Once your services are reviewed and the medical director agreement is signed, Dr. Espinet prepares your protocols. Tell us your timeline on the form and we will plan around it.
