It’s the first question most people ask before Botox, and the honest answer depends on which areas you treat and how strong those muscles are. Units matter because your total is the units times the price per unit. At MeliOra, Botox with Jeuveau or Xeomin is $12/unit. Below is a Botox unit chart by area, using the typical ranges we publish, plus what the FDA labels for our two Botox brands say and what common unit counts cost. For the price side, including insurance and yearly budgets, see how much Botox costs in Lutz.

The short answerMost single areas of the upper face take about 10 to 25 units: forehead lines 10 to 20, frown lines 15 to 25, and crow’s feet 12 to 24 for both sides. The jaw takes more, commonly 40 to 60 units. These are typical ranges, not a prescription. Dr. Espinet sets your dose at your visit after watching how your face moves.

Botox units per area: a dosing chart

These are the typical ranges MeliOra publishes for each area. They’re starting points for planning, not quotes, and your plan may come in lower or higher.

Treatment areaTypical units (cost at $12/unit)
Forehead lines10 to 20 units ($120 to $240)
Frown lines between the brows (the 11s)15 to 25 units ($180 to $300)
Crow’s feet around the eyes, both sides12 to 24 units ($144 to $288)
Brow lift, both sides4 to 10 units ($48 to $120)
Bunny lines on the nose4 to 10 units ($48 to $120)
Lip flip4 to 8 units (no availability right now)
Gummy smile2 to 4 units ($24 to $48)
Chin dimpling4 to 10 units ($48 to $120)
Masseter (jaw), both sides40 to 60 units ($480 to $720)

Each range is for that area on its own. Jeuveau and Xeomin are FDA-approved for specific areas of the upper face. The other areas on the chart, such as the brow, nose, lips, chin, and jaw, are common off-label uses that Dr. Espinet explains before treatment. Lighter plans use fewer units: see preventative Botox for those ranges.

What the FDA labels say about units

The prescribing information for our Botox brands gives reference doses for the areas each one is approved to treat:

  • Frown lines: both labels list 20 units, given as 4 units into each of five spots between the brows
  • Forehead lines: the Xeomin label lists 20 units, treated together with the frown lines for 40 units in total, a pairing meant to lower the chance of a drooping brow
  • Crow’s feet: the Xeomin label lists 12 units per side, or 24 in total
  • All three upper-face areas at once: the Xeomin label lists 64 units as the most for one session
  • Repeat treatment: both labels say no more often than every three months

Jeuveau is approved for frown lines only. Xeomin is approved for frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. Real plans can differ from label doses based on your anatomy and goals, which is why your dose is set in person, not from a chart.

How many units of Botox is normal?

For a single area of the upper face, about 10 to 25 units is typical. Treating the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet in one visit uses more, and the Xeomin label caps those three areas at 64 units per session. The jaw is the exception on our chart. Masseter treatment commonly takes 40 to 60 units for both sides, about 20 to 30 per side, and strong clenchers may need more. See masseter Botox in Lutz for jawline dosing.

A higher number isn’t a better result. A softer look that still moves takes fewer units than a fully smooth one.

Full-face Botox: how many units?

There’s no single full-face number. Most people mean the upper face: forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. The Xeomin label’s dose for those three together is 64 units, or $768 at $12/unit, and Dr. Espinet may use fewer for a softer result. Adding the jaw or other areas adds units on top.

How much does forehead Botox cost?

Forehead lines typically take 10 to 20 units, which is $120 to $240 at $12/unit. Many forehead plans also treat the frown lines, because the Xeomin label pairs the two to protect brow position. At the label’s 20 units for each area, that’s 40 units, or $480.

Botox cost for frown lines (the 11s)

The vertical 11 lines between the brows typically take 15 to 25 units, or $180 to $300. The FDA labels for Jeuveau and Xeomin both list 20 units for this area, which comes to $240.

How many units of Botox for the eyes?

Crow’s feet, the smile and squint lines at the outer eyes, typically take 12 to 24 units for both sides. The Xeomin label lists 12 units per side, or 24 in total. If you’re treating the eyes and forehead together, add the two ranges, and expect the frown lines to come up too, since forehead plans often include them. For what each area costs, see the Botox cost guide.

What 10, 20, 40, or 100 units cost

Because MeliOra prices Botox per unit, any unit count converts straight to a price. At $12/unit:

UnitsCost at $12/unit
1 unit$12
10 units$120
20 units$240
30 units$360
40 units$480
50 units$600
64 units$768
100 units$1,200

For scale, 20 units is the label dose for frown lines, 40 units covers forehead and frown lines together at label doses, and 64 units is the Xeomin label dose for the full upper face. Jeuveau comes in a 100-unit vial, and Xeomin in 50, 100, or 200-unit vials, according to their labels. At MeliOra you pay for the units in your plan, not for a vial.

What is a unit of Botox, and how much is it in mL?

A unit measures the product’s strength, not its volume. The volume depends on how much sterile saline the powder is mixed with before treatment. For frown lines, the Jeuveau label mixes a 100-unit vial with 2.5 mL of saline. That puts 4 units in every 0.1 mL, so a 20-unit dose is 0.5 mL. The Xeomin label lists several dilutions, and the same 2.5 mL in a 100-unit vial also gives 4 units per 0.1 mL. That’s why doses and prices are quoted in units, not milliliters.

Are Botox units the same across brands?

No. The Jeuveau and Xeomin labels both say their units are specific to that product and can’t be compared to or converted into units of any other botulinum toxin product. So a number from a past treatment with another brand doesn’t carry over one to one. If you’ve had Botox or Dysport elsewhere, bring the product, the units, the areas, and how long the result lasted. Dr. Espinet plans your Jeuveau or Xeomin dose from that history and an exam.

Who makes Botox? Meet our Botox brands

Botox is one company’s brand name, and most people use it for the whole category of wrinkle relaxers. At MeliOra, our Botox brands are Jeuveau and Xeomin. Both are FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A injections that relax the muscles behind expression lines. According to their FDA labels, Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) comes from Evolus, and Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is made by Merz. Both are $12/unit here, so the brand doesn’t change your price. Read more about Xeomin in Lutz, or compare both on our Botox in Lutz, FL page.

What changes the number of units you need

  • The areas you treat, and how many of them
  • Muscle strength: larger or stronger muscles usually need more units, and men often have stronger facial muscles
  • Your goal: a softer look that still moves takes fewer units than a fully smooth one
  • Preventative, or baby, Botox, which uses fewer units per area

How Dr. Espinet sets your dose

At your visit, Dr. Melanie Espinet, a board-certified physician, reviews your health history. Then she asks you to frown, raise your brows, and smile, so she can see where lines form and plan your units and placement. You agree on the product, the areas, the units, and your estimated total before anything begins. She records your product and units, so your next visit builds on real numbers. If something still looks off after two weeks, contact her directly.

Frequently asked questions

How many units of Botox do I need?

Most people need about 10 to 25 units per area of the upper face, depending on the area and muscle strength. Typical ranges are 10 to 20 units for forehead lines, 15 to 25 for frown lines, 12 to 24 for crow’s feet on both sides, and 40 to 60 for the jaw. Dr. Espinet sets your exact dose at your visit.

How many units of Botox is normal?

For one area of the upper face, about 10 to 25 units is normal. The Xeomin label lists 64 units as the most for the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet treated together in one session, and the jaw commonly takes 40 to 60 units. Lighter, preventative plans use fewer.

How much is 20 units of Botox?

At MeliOra, 20 units of Botox is $240, at $12/unit with Jeuveau or Xeomin. Twenty units is the dose both FDA labels list for frown lines, and it sits within the typical ranges for forehead lines and crow’s feet.

Is 40 units of Botox a lot?

Not for more than one area. Forty units is the Xeomin label dose for forehead and frown lines treated together, and the jaw commonly takes 40 to 60 units. For one small area, such as a lip flip at 4 to 8 units, it would be far more than needed. At $12/unit, 40 units is $480.

How much is 100 units of Botox?

At $12/unit, 100 units is $1,200. That’s more than any single area on our chart needs, and it matches the 100-unit vial that both of our Botox brands come in. At MeliOra you pay for the units in your treatment plan.

What is a unit of Botox?

A unit is a measure of the product’s strength, not its volume. How much liquid a unit takes up depends on how the vial is mixed. At the dilution in the Jeuveau label for frown lines, 0.1 mL holds 4 units. Each brand’s units are specific to that product.

Can I use the units from my last Botox visit?

Not one to one. The FDA labels for Jeuveau and Xeomin say their units can’t be compared to or converted into units of other botulinum toxin products. Bring your past product, units, and areas, and Dr. Espinet uses that history to plan your dose.

Who makes Botox, and which brands does MeliOra use?

Botox is one company’s brand name, often used for the whole category. MeliOra’s Botox brands are Jeuveau, from Evolus, and Xeomin, made by Merz. Both are FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A injections for frown lines, and both are $12/unit here.
