The short answerA Botox brow lift uses a few units of Botox to relax the muscles that pull your eyebrows down, so the brows can sit a little higher. The lift is small: studies measure it in millimeters, and some people see no change. MeliOra’s chart lists 4 to 10 units for both sides, and it’s an off-label use of our Botox brands, Jeuveau and Xeomin.

If your brows feel heavy or your eyes look tired, a Botox brow lift is one of the gentlest ways to change that. It won’t do what surgery does, but for the right face it can open up the eye area a little. Here’s how a Botox brow lift works, sometimes called a Botox eyebrow lift or a chemical brow lift, what the research shows about how much lift to expect, how many units it takes, and who should consider something else. At MeliOra, Botox means Botox with Jeuveau or Xeomin, placed by Dr. Melanie Espinet herself.

How does a Botox brow lift work?

Your eyebrows sit where opposing muscles balance. The forehead muscle, called the frontalis, sits above them and makes the lines across your forehead. Several smaller muscles pull the brows down: the corrugators and the procerus between the brows, the depressor supercilii, and the outer part of the ring-shaped muscle around the eye, the orbicularis oculi. The Jeuveau label describes the same group, noting that the procerus and depressor supercilii pull the brow downward.

A Botox brow lift relaxes some of those downward pullers and leaves the forehead muscle alone. With less pulling down, the brow can rise slightly. Doctors have studied this idea since at least the late 1990s. In a small 1999 study, treating only the brow depressors in seven women lifted the brow in most of them, and it softened their frown at the same time.

Where the injections usually go

There’s no single standard pattern. A 2017 review pulled together 11 brow-shaping studies with 585 patients. Seven treated the muscles both between the brows and at the outer end of the brow, two treated only the outer muscles, and two treated only the muscles between the brows. Across the studies, the brow rose most toward its outer end, near the tail.

Placement near the brow takes care. Relaxing the forehead muscle can let the brows drop instead of lifting them. That’s why the Xeomin label pairs forehead treatment with frown-line treatment to lower the risk of a drooping brow, and keeps forehead injections at least 2 centimeters above the bony rim of the eye socket. To protect the eyelid, the Jeuveau label also says not to inject closer than 1 centimeter above the center of the eyebrow.

How much lift can you expect from a Botox brow lift?

Less than many people expect. The lift is real for many people, but it’s measured in millimeters.

StudyWhat it found
Huilgol and colleagues, 1999: 7 womenFive of seven had a brow lift of 1 to 3 mm, and two had no change. The average lift was 1 mm.
Jabbour and colleagues, 2017: review of 11 studies, 585 patientsThe biggest lift was at the outer part of the brow, ranging from 0.4 to 4.8 mm across the studies
Park and colleagues, 2024: paper on brow-lifting methodsTreating the muscles that pull the brow down can give some lift, but the effect is typically limited

That’s subtle. Still, a brow that sits a little higher can make the eyes look a bit more open. If you want a dramatic change in brow height, Botox isn’t the right tool, and the surgical comparison below is worth reading.

Brow lift Botox units: how many does it take?

MeliOra’s unit chart lists 4 to 10 units for a brow lift, both sides together, which is $48 to $120 at $12/unit. Because a brow lift is off-label, no FDA label sets a dose for it. Dr. Espinet chooses the number after watching your brows at rest and as you frown, raise your brows, and smile. The studies in the 2017 review all used a different toxin brand, and each of our labels says its units can’t be converted to another brand’s, so published study doses don’t carry over.

A brow lift is often part of a bigger upper-face plan, and each area is counted on its own. If you also treat the 11s, the frown-line units are added on top. For every area in one chart, see how many units of Botox you need, and for budgeting, Botox cost in Lutz.

Is a Botox brow lift FDA-approved?

No. Jeuveau is FDA-approved for frown lines only. Xeomin is approved for frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. Lifting or shaping the brow isn’t on either label, so it’s an off-label use. Off-label doesn’t mean untested: brow lifting with botulinum toxin has been studied for more than 25 years. It does mean the dose and placement come from a physician’s judgment and published experience rather than a label. Dr. Espinet explains that before she treats you.

Who is a good candidate for a Botox brow lift?

A Botox brow lift tends to suit people whose brows are pulled down by muscle, not weighed down by skin. You may be a good fit if:

  • Your brows look a little heavy or flat at the tail
  • Your frown pulls your inner brows down, so you look stern or tired
  • You want a subtle, temporary change before considering anything bigger
  • You’re already treating frown lines or crow’s feet and want your brow shape planned in the same visit

It’s a weaker fit if you have a lot of loose skin on your upper eyelids, a brow that has dropped a long way, or an eyelid that already droops. The Xeomin label advises caution with an existing droopy eyelid or brow and with excess eyelid skin. A 2024 paper on brow-lifting methods adds that non-surgical treatments may not fix sagging skin between the brows and eyelids, and some people need surgery for it. Botox doesn’t remove skin. If that’s your main concern, a consultation with a surgeon who specializes in the eyelids or face may serve you better.

Non-surgical brow lift vs. a surgical brow lift

A Botox brow lift is one kind of non-surgical brow lift. The 2024 paper on brow-lifting methods describes a range of options, from Botox to thread lifts to surgery, such as an endoscopic forehead lift or a direct brow lift. It notes that direct brow-lift surgery is particularly helpful for people with facial paralysis who need a drooping brow raised a lot. Here’s how the two ends of that range compare.

MeliOra doesn’t offer filler, and our brow treatment is Botox alone. If your goal is a bigger change in brow height, it’s worth talking with a surgeon as well.

How long does a Botox brow lift last?

No label lists a duration for a brow lift, because it’s off-label. It relies on the same muscle-relaxing effect as other Botox for lines, which the American Academy of Dermatology says usually lasts about 3 to 4 months, and sometimes longer. As the muscles recover, the brow gradually settles back to where it was.

Most people see results within 3 to 7 days, according to the AAD, so give it about two weeks before judging the shape. Both labels say not to retreat more often than every 3 months. For the bigger picture, read how long Botox lasts.

Can a Botox brow lift make your brows or eyelids droop?

It can, though it’s uncommon. Because the injections sit close to the brow and eyelid, the main risks are a heavy or drooping brow, a drooping eyelid, or a brow that arches higher than planned. The 2017 review of 11 studies found only 5 cases of a drooping eyelid among 585 patients. In Xeomin’s open-label frown-line studies, a drooping brow and a raised eyebrow were each reported in fewer than 1% of people. These effects usually fade as the medicine wears off, though the Jeuveau label notes that side effects can sometimes last several months or longer.

In that review, bruising and headache were the most common problems, and redness or swelling where the needle went in can also happen. In some cases, the labels warn, the effect can spread beyond the treated area. Get medical care right away for trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing, weakness all over the body, or vision changes. If an eyelid droops, read about a droopy eyelid after Botox and call Dr. Espinet. The full list is in our guide to Botox side effects.

A Botox brow lift at MeliOra

Dr. Melanie Espinet, a board-certified family physician, does every treatment herself, at your home or office anywhere in our Tampa Bay service area with no travel fee, or at a select appointment in the Lutz office. She looks at your brows at rest and in motion, then plans the units and placement with you. If you’re also treating frown lines or crow’s feet, she plans the brow in the same visit so the result stays balanced. You agree on the brand, the units, and the total before anything starts.

Botox with Jeuveau or Xeomin is $12/unit, so a 4 to 10 unit brow lift is $48 to $120. Curious about our second brand? See Xeomin in Lutz. Ready to talk it through? Book a visit with Dr. Espinet.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Botox brow lift?

A Botox brow lift is a treatment that relaxes the muscles that pull your eyebrows down, so the brows can sit slightly higher. The lift is subtle, usually around a millimeter or two, and some people see no change. It’s an off-label use of Botox.

How many units of Botox for a brow lift?

MeliOra’s chart lists 4 to 10 units for a brow lift, both sides together. Because a brow lift is off-label, no FDA label sets a dose. Dr. Espinet chooses your number after watching how your brows move.

How much does a Botox brow lift cost?

At MeliOra, a Botox brow lift of 4 to 10 units is $48 to $120, at $12/unit with Jeuveau or Xeomin. Other areas treated in the same visit are added by the unit, and house calls carry no travel fee.

How long does a Botox brow lift last?

Plan on about 3 to 4 months, and sometimes longer, the usual span for Botox results according to the American Academy of Dermatology. No FDA label lists a duration for a brow lift because it’s off-label, and the brow settles back gradually as the muscles recover. Retreatment shouldn’t be more often than every 3 months.

Does a Botox brow lift really work?

Yes, for many people, but the lift is small. In a 1999 study, five of seven women had a brow lift of 1 to 3 mm, and two had no change. It works best when muscles pull the brow down, not when loose skin weighs it down.

Can Botox lift hooded eyes?

Only a little. A small brow lift can make the eyes look slightly more open, but Botox doesn’t remove skin. If the hooding comes from loose eyelid skin, the Xeomin label advises caution, and a surgical consultation may serve you better.

Is a Botox brow lift the same as a surgical brow lift?

No. A Botox brow lift uses a few injections to relax muscles and gives a small, temporary lift with no incision. Surgery works on the brow tissue itself and is an option when a brow needs more lift than injections can give.

Can a Botox brow lift go wrong?

Uncommonly. The main risks are a heavy brow, a drooping eyelid, or an arch that sits higher than planned, and these usually fade as the medicine wears off. A 2017 review of 11 studies found only 5 cases of a drooping eyelid among 585 patients, and Dr. Espinet reviews the risks with you before treatment.
